Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. In around 80% of cases of young sudden cardiac deaths, there will have been no signs, symptoms or warnings – underlining the vital role of screening.
The Knutsford Community First Responder Trust has been offering cardiac screening to the young people of Knutsford since 2016 in association with the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Cardiac screening involves providing ECGs and Echocardiograms to young people between the ages of 14 & 35. The screening days cost between £5,000 and £7,500 and provide screening for 100 people.
The KCFRT aims to reduce the risk of cardiac death in the youth of Knutsford by providing annual screening days for the students of the Knutsford Academy and, where funds permit, an annual public screening day open to all young people.
